It's the Dawgs vs. the Aggies this afternoon. Should be a great game.
I don't know if there will be a Dawg Walk before the contest, but the UGA band has already been gearing up for the game.
Predicting a Georgia win. I don't know how it will happen. We have no defensive coordinator. There has been a ton of upheaval in the program. We're playing a lot closer to their place than to Athens.
When you're in hostile territory, you stick to basics. Georgia should establish the run and keep after them with Caleb King and Washaun Ealey. Take the crowd out of the game and keep their fast-paced offense on the sidelines.
Dawgs tough it out, 35 to 24.

Update on Rambo
Good news. It was just a concussion.
"Just a concussion" doesn't sound right, because concussions are so serious. But compared to what it could have been, I think everyone is relieved to hear of the diagnosis.

Dawgs Win!
Another UGA vs. Auburn game. Another contest that went down to the wire. Georgia escaped with a 7 point victory, 31 to 24.
Auburn went up two touchdowns on passing plays. Their guys looked wide open and things did not look good.
Georgia responded. The team showed the same never-die resolve that it had early in the season when Georgia seemed to always come back in the game after allowing the opponent to first get ahead.
UGA mounted a furious comeback. Somehow, Georgia got Joe Cox going throwing the ball, shifted the running game into gear, and scored with our special teams. When was the last time that happened?
Cox was accurate on a couple of throws. He hit Israel Troupe and Tavarres King for long passing strikes. He was even lucky on one play, when a ball thrown over the middle, without much zip, and almost a sure interception, went right through an Auburn defender's hands and ricocheted to Orson Charles.
In good news for Georgia's ground game, the offensive line started to open up holes. Washaun Ealey showed incredible balance and drive on a spinning whirling dervish play down to the one. He managed to squeeze into the endzone on his next run. Caleb King got into the act and scored on a short touchdown run.
After Georgia managed to get the lead, Auburn came right back with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Georgia received the ball, but was not able to move the football effectively.
Auburn tried to pass the ball down the field, and UGA came up with a play. Our front four collapsed the pocket, and the Auburn quarterback made an off-balance throw. Reshad Jones pulled in the interception, and Caleb King made them pay with a 20-yard+ touchdown run.
Auburn still had a chance to tie it. They ran the ball down the field this time and moved it effectively. Time was getting away from them, however, and Auburn was forced to throw it. On the play of the game, Auburn's quarterback hit an Auburn player in stride at Georgia's two yard line. Bacarri Rambo hit the Auburn player in stride, too. The jarring hit separated their player from the ball, and what would have probably been a touchdown for Georgia, ended up as an incompletion.
After the hit, Rambo collapsed in a heap. His right arm seemed stuck straight up in the air. Instant replays showed the violent collision, and players for both sides stopped to kneel in prayer.
I'm not sure what the status of Rambo is. I immediately thought that he had broken his collarbone, but then that didn't seem right either. I did know that his shoulder and neck received an incredible blow. There are sure to be updates, which I will link for the sake of the record.
After Rambo's injury, Auburn seemed out of sorts. Georgia recorded a sack. One of their linemen jumped and they were moved back 5 yards with a false start penalty. And on the next-to-last play, Auburn threw for the endzone.
Great-looking pass. In the far corner of the endzone. Very close, very accurate, and I wasn't sure right away what had happened. But somehow our players knocked the ball away.

Very Strange Game
Well, I said I had a bad feeling about this game, and the feeling never left me. Georgia looked flat, dazed, out of sorts. Lose to LSU 20 to 13.
LSU was ranked #4, so the Georgia squad has nothing to feel ashamed about. But the team really doesn't have much to feel good about, either.
For one thing, the Dawgs had nothing going on offense for the entire first half. Nothing new from Mike Bobo. Three and outs for the team on multiple occasions. Cox missed a sure touchdown pass to AJ Green.
Georgia's ineptitude on offense meant that we therefore gave the ball to LSU in prime field position. Drew Butler kept up his booming punts, but the LSU special teams players were able to repeatedly return the ball for 10 yards plus.
The much criticized Willie Martinez and the Georgia defense got pushed around on two long drives, yet they held LSU to 6 points. Blair Walsh missed his first field goal of the year. Terrible timing.
Second half begins and Georgia sacks the LSU quarterback on three straight plays. The Dawgs go up by 7. All the while, though, Joe Cox is having his worst game. Missing wide open guys. Throwing behind receivers. Manages to get his completion percentage up in the second half, but he never looked good.
Two minutes, 47 seconds to go, Georgia gets the ball and drives down the field. AJ makes another incredible catch. And then the call of the game. Excessive celebration on the Dawgs. Penalty of 15 yards. LSU gets the kick and before you know it they are down at Georgia's 30.
LSU runs for a touchdown, and Joe Cox throws an interception. Game over.
If there was a good development for Georgia, it's that the team discovered its "go-to" tailback. Washaun Ealey looked great. Much better than Caleb King or Richard Samuel. If I'm Coach Richt, I practice Ealey with the first team all week.
Strange feeling. Strange game. Hate that Georgia lost. Hate that we lost the way we did. As long as there is no taunting, there is no way that the referee should call excessive celebration on a guy who catches a critical touchdown pass with less than 2 minutes to go.
The SEC needs to step in.

Lots of Questions, Few Answers
How healthy is Joe Cox? Is he really up for starting the game and setting the tone for the team? Can he connect on a deep route? If Joe can't throw well, can a back-up do the job? Which one? How quickly can and will the coaches assess the situation and make a change, if needed? Are we sandbagging?
How will we run the ball on South Carolina? Who is our go-to guy? Is Caleb King available? What about Ealey? Is our offensive line "man enough?" Will we show creativity on offense? Do we have receivers other than Green and Moore, who can reasonably be expected to make plays?
How can we record a sack? What is our defensive end rotation? Will we get a turnover? Can we disguise coverages? Will our corners and safeties play big?
Will our defense see too much of the field and get tired? Will the Ol' Ball Coach dial up one of those red zone high passes to the back of the end zone and have one of their guys jump up and get it?
Will we use directional kicking? Can we cover kicks and punts? Do we know when to run it out and when to down it?
Will our coaches communicate well? Is the team mentally and physically prepared for its first home game of the year? How well will we play at night?
Since I don't have answers to a lot of the questions above, I can't see Georgia winning, either.
I hate losing to Spurrier, too. However, for the remainer of the season, I will force myself to be honest. Overcome my optimist tendencies and to the best of my ability accurately assess strengths and weaknesses. Carolina by 10.

Fresh Faces, Fresh Options
Richt says he is going to play all of his skill guys. The freshmen are going to see the field.
That's good news to me. If the guys are ready, let them play. But the bigger issue, more than the total number of guys that play, is the schemes we use with the 11 on the field.
Our offense needs a makeover.
The pro-style offense is good when it works, but stopping Georgia should never be about keying in on one runningback. That was Florida's focus last year on defense. By shadowing Moreno, they for the most part made us one dimensional and shut us down.
Now that we have strength on the offensive line, let's put in new packages. I want to see skill guys going in motion, confusing the defense, stretching the field horizontally and vertically. Let's insert Washaun Ealey at tailback, and let Caleb King take the snap. Go with 5 wideouts. Run the option with Logan Gray, Richard Samuel being the dive-guy, and Carlton Thomas taking the pitch.
With fresh faces, come fresh options for Coach Richt and staff.
