Missed the Mississippi State Game

Family matters.

My priorities are in the right place, but I'm still frustrated, since it was the best win of the year. Tried to watch the replay on ESPN3, and for some reason when I clicked on the Georgia game, it was showing the South Carolina game instead.

If anyone wants to send in a comment or a recap, please do so.

Thanks.

Swat Analysis

Jarvis Varnado is getting pub.

After pulling his name out of the draft, he is back at Mississippi State. Varnado has a real chance to break Shaquille O'Neal's record for blocked shots in the SEC.

And Mississippi State is playing it up. Putting out a video to get Varnado more national attention. Varnado is the reluctant star.

I'll try to remember to post a link to the video when it gets up on State's website.

Renardo Sidney and Mississippi State

Did Sidney in fact get rejected by UCLA and USC?

If USC, the school that allegedly made a pay-off to get O.J. Mayo to commit-- if they reject a guy, how then does the recruit expect to get admitted by an SEC school? Who is running the show over at Mississippi State?

According to the attached article, the NCAA is looking into Sidney and whether the fancy accommodations he has had were legitimately paid for by his family. Of course, no violations have been proven at this point, but is there some fire in all that smoke? Something isn't quite right here.

I want Georgia to start getting the elite recruits, but not if we have to pay to play.

Mississippi State ranked at #96

Varnado is an incredible defender, and he is pretty crafty around the basket. The thought is, though, that with the loss of Jamont Gordon and Charles Rhodes, Mississippi State will be lacking in scoring punch. Not much is expected, then, from "the other bulldogs." College Hoops expects State to come in at #9 in the SEC.

For reference, College Hoops ranked UGA as #125, projecting the Dawgs to be next to last in the SEC. It's hard to disagree with the analysis, since on paper UGA will have to replace the scoring and defense of Jacob, Bliss, Gaines and Humphrey.

However, my sense is that although the starting five for UGA might not be that imposing, the next five off the bench will have huge contributions. Leslie, Thompkins and Ware will hopefully get enough minutes early to get them adjusted to SEC play. If Anyaorah can shoot and defend, Georgia may surprise.
