Recruiting the ATL
Good article from the AJC. Dominique and Jarvis Hayes are quoted, as are Jalen Kendrick and Coach Hugh Durham.
It will take Coach Fox a while. He got Vincent Williams on board for 2009, and Gerald Robinson and Cady Lalanne for 2010.
But will the best players in the Atlanta area come to Athens?
Fox will have to see just what it takes to handle the Atlanta AAU scene. Since the NCAA is working to get new rules enacted, the relationships with AAU coaches should be cleaner. There shouldn't be as many issues with the perception of improper dealing, and all this should benefit Coach Fox as he seeks to develop ties within the basketball community.
The biggest issue is the Win and Loss record for Fox in his first year. If Fox can field a competitive and even winning team this fall and winter, then prospects will start to want to come to UGA.

Bulldawgs' Leslie in Rarefied Air
I read with interest the news that Travis Leslie had eclipsed 45 inches in the Dawgs' most recent tests of vertical jumping ability.
When the team used to do the jumping measurements, UGA used the "standard vertical," that is having the players jump from a standing position. I understand that later coaches allowed players to take a one-step approach. Some other testers allow players a run-up before jumping.
As a result of the difference in testing procedures, comparisons between players are only so precise. And I have no idea which method Coach Fox uses. Nonetheless, surpassing 45 inches is incredible, whether from a standing position, one-step, or from a trampoline.

NBA Average: 28"
World Record: 55", held by former Globetrotter, Michael Wilson
Highest Reported: 61"
David Thompson, formerly of the NBA: 48"

A few Dawgs are on the list of the 66
pairs of brothers who both played in the NBA. The article below is entitled "Hermanos y Leyendas," which means "Brothers and Legends" in English.
Even if we slept through our high school Spanish classes and cannot read the article, everybody can see the names at the bottom of the article where the former Dawgs are listed.
The Brothers Gasol, who look remarkably alike, will be the 66th pair. It's ironic that Marc Gasol will apparently be signing with the Memphis Grizzlies. Weren't they the team that got robbed when they traded away his older brother, Pau, to the Los Angeles Lakers? Since Marc was the MVP of the Spanish League, he might help the Grizzlies to recover.
If you make a mistake, I guess life sometimes gives you another chance, or at least something that looks like it.
