Kentavious Caldwell Shows the Complete Package

Caldwell impressed the analysts with his performance at the Nike Global Challenge. Although his shots weren't falling enough in game one, he bounced back in games two and three. Against Canada, Caldwell scored 23 points with 11 rebounds. He shot a respectable 9 of 22 from the floor (but just 2 of 12 from behind the arc), and also had 5 assists against just one turnover. He was 3 of 4 from the line.

Caldwell followed that output with 21 points and 11 rebounds in the championship game against USA Mid-West. He boosted his field goal percentage by going 7 of 15 from the floor, 3 of 8 in three-pointers, and 4 of 6 from the foul line. He had 3 assists, just one turnover, and had 3 steals and a block.

Here is ESPN's review.

ESPN gives Caldwell a grade of 97 out of 100, which according to their system, means that Caldwell has the ability to start and make an immediate impact as a freshman for a top 25 college basketball team. Impressive!

ESPN also has some video of Caldwell up. Nice!

Note: I liked the video and that's Kentavious in the action recorded, but I don't think that's his picture.

9/22 with 2/12 and 7/15 with 3/8 means inside the arc he went 7/10 and 4/7. That's pretty good and shows he is willing to attack the basket or has a solid mid range game, or hopefully both.

Or you could say that out of his 37 shots, 20 were three-pointers. I don't like for players to get too enamored with the three-point shot.

The good thing is that since he had a double-double, that says to me that he is willing to mix it up inside. If he honors his commitment to the Dawgs, he will have many more rhythm shots from the movement of the triangle offense, and his ratio of long-distance and mid-range should be better balanced.

If you take 40 shots and 20 are for 3 and 20 are for 2, that is not that bad.

30% of 20 3's=18 pts
40% of 20 2's=16 pts

I just watched Marcus Thornton and Sherrard Brantley on Youtube. I cannot wait for this season.

After watching Duke win the championship with very little talent, it really makes me wonder how far the Dawgs can go this year.

We should go 10 deep, and I expect that Price will have improved exponentially over last year. He and Barnes will provide the muscle to match up with anyone.

This team can go Ware, Robinson, Leslie, Thornton and Thompkins and run you to death, or can go Ware, Leslie, Thompkins, Barnes and Price and pound it inside.

Not only that, but we have great situational matchups with Brantley shooting and Vince Williams can come in and harass the opponent's PG for 2 minutes at the time without having to be the primary ballhandler.

I think Brantley/Lalanne/Thornton/Williams may be UGA's best recruiting class since the Carlos Strong/Shandon Anderson class, but most of the freshmen will only be able to get off the bench in mop up time.

This is the first season I have been excited for UGA basketball since 2002.
