D. J. Shockley to CFL?

D.J. Shockley was cut recently by the Atlanta Falcons, and from all indications, he won't be picked back up by the team.

It appears that at least one team in the Canadian Football League is interested in bringing Shockley in.

I wouldn't be surprised to see D.J. go to the CFL. It will give him a chance to showcase what he can do if he gets regular playing time, and it may ultimately lead to another chance with the NFL.

Bad Day for Dawgs in the NFL

D.J. Shockley and Thomas Brown were cut by the Falcons.

Kregg Lumpkin was not kept by the Packers, if memory serves me.

Leonard Pope was cut by the Cardinals.

I thought that the Patriots were going to let Ben Watson go, but he made the 53-man roster.

Richard Seymour got traded from the Patriots to the Oakland Raiders. Isn't that about like getting cut? Don't know what happened to that franchise, but everytime I see something in the press about the team, it's bad.

I saw on one of the message boards that Fernando Velasco and Marcus Howard were cut. Maybe some of the guys will get picked up, some will make a practice roster. But it's hard to put your heart and soul into making a team and then at the last possible time, be let go.

Man, here's hoping for a better weekend for the Dawgs next weekend.

Missed Opportunity for Shockley?

Didn't watch the Falcons game last night, but maybe I wouldn't have liked it much if I did.

Yes, I wanted the Falcons to win, and they beat the Rams. But more than that, I wanted D.J. Shockley to play well. It is only a pre-season game, so the team win-loss record during this time is only so relevant. However, individual performance in this part of the schedule is critical. You must play well if you want to keep your roster spot.

We're two games into the pre-season, and Shockley has not looked good. The receivers have not always helped him, true, but it's more than that. I think it's mechanics.

Something looks off-- just not right-- about Shock's arm position or his release point when he throws the football. In my opinion, the ball ends up sailing a bit, and he is not able to hit the receiver accurately on the short routes. Not as big an issue on the deep patterns.

Can he recover? Can he stay with the team as a back-up? Maybe. But if he does not play well soon, this might be Shockley's last stand.

Shockley and Brown Ready to Roll

D.J. Shockley and Thomas Brown are in supporting roles with the Falcons.

Although I don't comment about pro football much, every now and again an article catches my eye, and this one from Daniel Cox of the Examiner fits the bill.

Thomas Brown and D.J. Shockley have represented UGA well during their tenure with the Dawgs and in their pro careers. They are an injury or two away from being right there in the mix for playing time with the Falcons, so their job is to contribute to the team as they can and remain ready.
