Casey Mitchell to Play at West Virginia?

Sure sounds like it. The high-scoring shooting guard originally committed to UAB. He then later opened up his recruitment.

I wondered if he was the kind of guy that could be successful at Georgia, and recently wrote that the new coach should take a hard look at him. However, I had not seen the earlier reports that Mitchell had committed to West Virginia.

Who knows? He could de-commit again, but in all likelihood, the Mitchell train has left the station.

New Coach's First Recruit

Maybe it ought to be this guy.

I imagine that Mitchell will be a hot commodity for anyone with a scholarship left for next year. He has shown that he has an all-around game, and he is the highest scorer for the number one juco team in the country. Since he's originally from Savannah, he might want to play for the Red and Black.

Georgia's new coach, whoever he is, will have to shape the roster to fit his style. Currently, he only has one scholarship left for this coming year, and if he uses it, he projects to have one left for the next year.

With that said, there are bound to be some casualties as players project how much playing time they are likely to get under the new regime. I don't wish to see that kind of turnover happen, and I would love for UGA to have success with the current roster, but I have to be realistic, too.

Anyway, since we didn't get Derrick Favors, I think a high-scoring juco could be just the tonic to cure what ails our basketball team-- if we can beat other schools to the punch.

No Derrick Favors? Let's get Casey Mitchell

Casey Mitchell is a player at the same junior college that former UGA player, Jeremy Jacob attends.

Casey is the leading scorer at Chipola Junior College, which is the #1 juco team in the country. After originally committing to UAB, Mitchell changed his mind, and from all I understand, has not made a commitment yet.

Perhaps he would consider coming to Georgia. Is he a fit for Felton? Maybe. Will Felton be around next year? Maybe.

Let's pick Mitchell up anyway. Georgia needs a scorer, and Mitchell is a dead-eye shooter. He outscored Meeks in the North-South All-Star game his senior year.

If Anyaorah can play next year, Georgia might be in decent shape at the shooting guard position, and Demario Mayfield is coming in as a 2009 commit. But we're losing Terrance Woodbury and Corey Butler, our two seniors, and I'm ready for up-tempo offense. I want lots of options for scorers, so let's get deep at the guard position.
