Chris Daniels is now playing in Jakarta, Indonesia, with the Indonesia Warriors (sometimes called by the team's former name, Satria Muda) of the ASEAN Basketball League.
Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia, with a population of over 10 million residents. ASEAN is the association of southeast nations, a group of ten countries in southeast Asia. Besides Indonesia, ASEAN includes the countries of Singapore, Thailand, the Phillipines and Vietnam, to name a few.
Daniels lines up next to a familiar face on Indonesia's front line. Former UGA hoops teammate Steve Thomas starts for the Warriors at center.
Daniels Arrives
Chris went right to work for the Warriors. He is averaging 14 points per game through 9 contests.
If UGA fans have time and want to see Daniels and Thomas play, the Warriors' game against the Singapore Slingers is linked below.

Terrance Woodbury to Poland
The ink must have been barely dry on Woodbury's contract to play in Argentina when he was whisked away to Koszalin, Poland.
Terrance will be playing in the Polish Basketball League for the balance of 2010. At least that's the case for now.
Woodbury will be playing for AZS Koszalin, a team formed in 1968. If I were Terrance, I'd call on Chris Daniels for help in getting acclimated.
Koszalin is a city located in northwest Poland, just off the coast of the Baltic Sea.
Good luck, Terrance.

Chris Daniels Buzzer Beater
As readers of the Blog know, Chris Daniels has been playing in Poland for the PGE Turow team.
I thought that the video of his buzzer beater from last year was excellent, as was the web site's description of the post-game interview.

Pertha Robinson Goes Up
Maybe not as high up as he used to go, but he is still out there playing the game.
The Albany Legends basketball game was held a couple of weeks ago in Albany, Georgia. The younger players held on at the end to win the game.
Legends
There are some good players outside of metro Atlanta, too. They don't get the same amount of coverage, but maybe Fox can find a "Pertha Robinson" or a "Chris Daniels" type of athlete by broadening UGA's recruiting base to find the talented guys in some of Georgia's second-tier cities (Albany, Columbus, Macon, Savannah).

Chris Daniels Finishes
Man, this is a great play.
Reminds me of the Virginia Tech game and Dustin Ware's behind-the-back pass to Albert Jackson for the stuff.
The main difference is that when Ware and Jackson teamed up on the play on t.v., I understood the commentators! Ha!
Anyway, Daniels take the no-look, between the legs bounce pass from a teammate and flushes it.
Finish

Chris Daniels' Expanded Range
Chris Daniels has expanded his range. Both geographically and athletically.
As readers of the Blog know, Chris Daniels is now playing in Poland. He joined the team, PGE Turow, earlier this year. Prior to that, he played for Kotwica. You can click on his name at the end of the article to pull up some of the background information on him.
At any rate, YouTube has a video of one of Daniels' buzzer-beating, long-range jumpshots, from back when he was with the Kotwica team.

Chris Daniels with New Team
Chris Daniels signed back in July, 2008, with the Polish League team, PGE Turow. He came over from Zotwicka, another team in the Polish League, for whom he played for the last two seasons.
Daniels averaged almost a double-double last season, notching 14 points, 9 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. He's off to another good start this year.
Daniels has played internationally since leaving Georgia. Not only has he played for Turow and Zotwicka of the Polish League, mentioned above, but also for the Shougang Beijing Ducks of China, AB Contern of Luxembourg, and Landstede Zwolle of the Netherlands.
Daniels was an elite performer during his career at Georgia (years 2000 to 2004). He started 94 times, scored over 1,000 points, and grabbed 763 rebounds.

Role for Thompkins?
I was trying to think of what the role for Thompkins would be for his freshman year...
As indicated in the link below, Thompkins can score the basketball.
First-Rounder?
I assume that at least for 2008/2009, the start will go to the more experienced players. That means that Thompkins will come off the bench early, playing big minutes, depending upon whether we place him at the three or four position, and whether Jeremy Price and Terrance Woodbury play defense and manage to stay out of foul trouble.
Another question: When was the last time that UGA had a scorer at power forward? I guess, Takais Brown, but that comparison really doesn't fit. Brown was a one-year wonder, a Juco, and more of a bruiser than a scorer.
Shon Coleman was a leaper, a guy who almost averaged a double-double during his two-year UGA career. Coleman notched 12 points and 8 boards a game back in 2000 and 2001. Chris Daniels was a do-everything type of guy. He got 11 or 12 points a game and 8 rebounds over three years (2002 to 2004). But as good as Coleman and Daniels were, they were more players than scorers.
So what will Thompkins' role be? Who is he like?
If Thompkins boosts his leaping ability, builds his body, and adjusts to the physical SEC play, he may become the anchor for a great run for UGA. He might end up as Georgia's most dominant power forward ever. It really could happen. And he would accordingly be in a class all by himself, perhaps even becoming the first-round pick that at least one opposing coach said he would be.
